Abstract

The experiment was conducted during kharif season (July to November), 2022 at the Technology Park of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India to investigate genetic parameters and the correlation between grain yield and its contributing traits of 30 rice genotypes. The experiment was conducted with 30 genotypes in a Randomized Block Design (RBD). Observations were recorded for morphological traits, viz., days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of effective tillers per plant, panicle length, grain per panicle, biological yield per plant, harvest index, test weight, and grain yield per plant. Analysis of variance found significant differences for all ten traits studied, indicating sufficient variability among the material used in the present study. High GCV and PCV were observed for the number of effective tillers per plant, biological yield per plant and harvest index. High heritability, coupled with high genetic advance percent of the mean, was observed for grain per panicle, plant height, number of effective tillers per plant, biological yield per plant, panicle length, harvest index, and grain yield per plant. Grain yield exhibited significant and positive correlation with test weight, plant height, grain per panicle, biological yield per plant, panicle length, number of effective tillers per plant and days to maturity at phenotypic as well as genotypic level. Vallabh Basmati-23, Sugandha-3, and Pusa Basmati-1509 recorded the highest values for effective tillers per plant, plant height with grains per panicle, and grain yield per plant, respectively, indicating their potential as promising parents for future breeding programmes.
